Thumbs Up for Stroke Recovery Sensor Glove

Working under Professor Rosaire Mongrain as part of their department’s fourth-year capstone course, Mechanical Engineering undergraduate students Khaled El-Badawi, Oubai El Kerdi, Mahdi Taha and Karine Terzibachi have designed and built a prototype glove that has the potential to enable stroke victims to engage in rehabilitative exercises from the comfort of their home –– while having their progress monitored remotely by a physician or therapist. The sensor glove works by tracking wrist, finger and hand movements while the wearer plays computer video games that can help rebuild strength and dexterity in areas that were affected by stroke. A message from the CEO

justin

Dear subscribers, On behalf of the entire Jintronix team, I would like to thank you for your interest in and support of our company. From what began as a grassroots effort to address the growing need for physical rehabilitative services in developing countries, we have expanded quickly to include 9 core members, numerous students, a team of PhD graduates, as well as several very notable clinical, business, and marketing advisors and associates. More importantly, our R&D team has made steady progress on our first hardware and software prototype VR system, the JRS1, and it encompasses features and algorithms that have the potential to truly revolutionize both the quality and delivery of rehabilitative services that are available today. I am extremely excited with the progress that we have made thus far, and it is a testament to both the scope and vision of our project that the best is yet to

Besides the tremendous burden and inconvenience that accompanied taking my father to and from the rehabilitation facility several times a week, as well as sheer difficulty of maintaining his motivation through the tedious and unimaginative exercise regiments, the most discouraging aspect of the experience was the sheer difficulty for him to get the necessary care that he required, simply because of the lack of resources and clinical staff
